The Telluride Journal
6 Days | 5,098 kms | Telluride, CO
From Vancouver, I hopped on a flight to Denver with a short layover then connected to Montrose and picked up my rental car to drive the hour long journey to this beautiful gem in the Rockies.
Believe it or not, this was my first time in Colorado and definitely not my last. After a good nights rest, I was up early to climb the Via Ferrata (assisted climbing route) that traverses a 500 ft vertical cliff. I met up with Will and Kelly, owners of an awesome brand called Western Rise, the two moved to Telluride over a year ago and fell in love with it here.
A 3am wakeup to hike up to Hope Lake was 100% worth every step and yawn along the way! The views up here left me speechless, this short hike is well worth the final steep ascent. Burning calf muscles give way to beautiful pristine turquoise waters and rocky ridge lines at the top.
Kelly and Will have a lot of passions, but it became clear that fly fishing was one of their favourites. Watching them both fish, you can see the dedication and focus in every moment, it was incredible to watch people do something in an environment so foreign to me.
Endless dirt roads, hiking trails, waterfalls, bike trails... Telluride has it all and it's all set in some of the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen!
If Telluride wasn't on your list of places to visit, it should be now, and put it somewhere near the top. This beautiful town in the San Juan mountains of Colorado shouldn't be missed!
