Watch J A P A N my latest short film!
J A P A N
In November 2016 I booked a dream photo trip to explore Japan with close friend and photographer, Elisabeth Brentano. For years I had been fascinated with Japanese culture, the food, the people, the landscapes and most of all... Ramen! Aside from creating some of my favourite images to date, I also worked on a short film from my time there.
My film is unlike other videos I've worked on, it doesn't have a storyline. It's more of a compilation of the beautiful scenes I saw out there. Creating something that justified these beautiful landscapes, I had to change my usual style of having fast paced scenes, I had to slow down, something that represents Japan well. Below are some of my favourite images from this trip.
Undoubtedly my favourite image that I captured in Japan and from 2016 as a whole. This scene was not planned or even predicted. As I returned from attempting to capture sunrise from a different viewpoint, I made my way back along the shores of the Ōi River. Nearing my vehicle, the sun suddenly burst over the hill side and a man on a boat approached in this golden light. I used the nearest tree branch I could find to frame the scene and lead in to him. All of it happened in seconds.
